Carnegie Carnival

The Saturday before Fat Tuesday
This Mardi Gras-style carnival is preceded by several events such as Carnival Petition each October and Twelfth Night in January, and culminates with Carnegie Carnival parades the Saturday before Fat Tuesday.

3rd Friday Downtown

April – October
Beginning each April and ending in October, Decatur hosts visitors on the third Friday of each month. This festival is a great opportunity to explore the stores of Downtown Decatur, try food from local street vendors, and enjoy live music.

River Clay Fine Arts Festival

3rd weekend in October
This festival celebrating visual arts gives participating artists the chance to showcase and sell their work each September. Visitors have the chance to meet artists, enjoy art demonstrations and watch musical performances.

Downtown Decatur Runs

Decatur has lots of opportunities for runners to participate in races, whether it’s through clubs like River City Runners or through local races such as the Carnival Frolic each February.

Downtown Decatur Pub Crawl

Each March, Downtown Decatur hosts a St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl. This annual event has something for every member of the family with music, games, local dining and kid-friendly activities.

Historic Walking Tours

Historic walking tours are offered on Saturdays in April. Each Saturday tour covers a small part of Decatur’s rich history, with topics ranging from the architecture of Old Decatur to the infamous “Scottsboro Boys” trial.

Historic Garden Tour

Downtown Decatur offers a garden tour each spring. Visitors are able to see the beauty of public and private gardens in the historic district.

Jazz Under the Stars

This free community concert, presented by the Calhoun College Foundation, takes place each spring. It features a dinner fundraiser, art displays, live pottery creation and a recording studio tour and demonstration.

Morgan County – Decatur Farmers Market

Opening each year in April and closing in November, the Morgan County – Decatur Farmers Market offers a variety of in-season, locally grown fruits and vegetables.

Paul Stroud Concerts by the River

Beginning in June and ending in July, free concerts are offered to the public each Monday evening. This concert series offers a wide variety of musical styles at Decatur’s Rhodes Ferry Park on the banks of the Tennessee River.

Every Saturday evening in October, visitors are able to come learn about the spookier side of Decatur’s history through a guided walking tour of Downtown Decatur.

Downtown Decatur Christmas Open House

The Decatur Small Business Association hosts an open house the second Thursday in November for businesses downtown. Participating stores and restaurants offer specials, prizes, demonstrations and entertainment for guests.

Historic Decatur Christmas Tour

Visitors come from all over to drive through the Albany and Old Decatur historic districts and view the beautiful decorations. On the 2nd Saturday in December, visitors can enter some of the historic homes to view interior decorations.

Enchanted Forest of Decatur

The Enchanted Forest of Decatur, located in Founders’ Park across from Old State Bank, is a family-oriented fundraiser benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. It is free to the public and gives visitors the chance to see Christmas trees decorated by different local organizations.

Decatur Christmas Parade

The first Monday in December, Downtown Decatur is home to a Christmas parade. This free event that benefits local charities features floats, bands and a guest appearance from Santa.

Christmas Parade of Lights

The Christmas Parade of Lights sets itself apart from a typical parade because it takes place on the Tennessee River in early December. Instead of floats, it features a display of decorated boats cruising along the river.
