Riverfront Development

One of Decatur's many assets is its riverfront. To realize its full potential, Decatur must link development along the river with the revitalization of the City Center. Careful planning and execution will establish a compatible mix of retail, residential and entertainment venues that will sustain and enhance the redevelopment of Decatur's downtown. Creative development of the riverfront will encourage new development in the City Center that will, in turn, provide ongoing support for new businesses along the river.

This five-year Strategic Plan will:

  • Establish a pedestrian flyover linking Founders Park, Banks Street and downtown to Rhodes Ferry and the riverfront.  Gateway Pedestrian Bridge
  • Implement the Master Plan for Riverfront Development according to "Envision Decatur"
  • Coordinate the development of the riverfront in concert with the Sweetwater development on I-65
  • Continue to promote the development of Ingall's Harbor as stated in "Envision Decatur"
  • Continue to enhance the bridge entryway into Decatur.  Accomplishments
  • Establish a database of available riverfront properties for development in concert with City Center revitalization
  • Establish a trolley system connecting the riverfront development with points of interest in the City Center
