Calhoun/Athens State Fine Arts School

The downtown arts school proposed in the Envision Decatur Plan is currently under construction. The School of Fine Arts was created through a partnership between the City of Decatur, Morgan County Alabama, Calhoun Community College, Athens State University, and Decatur Downtown Redevelopment Authority. The new school will be located on 2nd Avenue in the former Robinson building across from the Princess Theatre for the Performing Arts.

Timeline:

• December 10, 2010: Ground breaking for the new Fine Arts School was held at the Robinson Building. The building has since been dismantled and the foundation work has been started.
• March 2010: Plans are approved to develop a joint arts program between Athens State University and Calhoun Community College.
